There is a growing trend for South Asians abroad to want to come to India for various reasons. Some want to give back to their ‘motherland’. Others want to reconnect with their roots and understand their identity. There are those that want to explore spirituality, and still others that want to travel geographically. Whatever the reason, underlying it is usually a search for deeper connections and meaning.
But where is that avenue to explore the land
of my ancestors?
In the past, South Asian professionals with a desire to explore and connect in India had few resources at their disposal to help guide their exploratory journeys. Programs like InSPIRE offer structured, safe and welcoming environments that make those journeys more accessible.
How can the ground reality of India be experienced and
felt?
Our understanding of India is often shaped by intermediaries like the news or the perspectives of our families, and India gets reduced to statistics, clichés, and anecdotes in the process. InSPIRE offers first-hand experience to inform in a way that only a shift in personal perspective can.
What is the importance of understanding the interrelatedness of the world?
We often do not understand how our choices create impacts and ripples far outside the spheres of our own lives. We understand the point of consumption, but not the consequences after or the conditions before that feed those choices. InSPIRE offers a glimpse into our incredible power and privilege in making a better world by better understanding these relationships.
How can I connect to my passion about? What are the
options for my future?
Many find the first few years out of college disappointing. Some have already decided to make a change and will be applying to graduate school, but feel like they’ve missed something along the way. Others have completed professional degrees or even acquired a great deal of professional experience, and now want to explore ways to use specific skills and talents to give back. Many times they feel that their options are limited, either because of a shortage of time or specificity of training, and haven’t had a chance to look at the bigger picture. InSPIRE offers a way to broaden options, the space to see the bigger picture, and a support structure to nurture new passions.
Work can feel meaningless. How can I go about making a difference?
There are many ways to create change, but how do you make change productive and meaningful? InSPIRE pushes you to look deeper at making a difference by connecting to people who are the changes they wish to see in the world.
How can I have rich experiences that will help me shape
my worldview and complement my formal education?
Modern education systems impart much information to us; students have learned to think creatively and problem-solve. Yet while we are ‘information- rich’, we are becoming ‘experience-poor’. Our incredible systemic thinking and creative problem-solving capabilities fall short of the mark in the absence of intimate experience of the problems for which we seek answers. InSPIRE offers up-close close and personal encounters that awaken your heart, and align it with your head and hands to inspire powerful synergies in transformation.
